Have you ever considered reconditioned or repaired machinery? Here you can find some valuable tips to understand whether it's useful to recondition your telehandlers.

Hello everyone! We know very well that maintaining a fleet of machinery involves high costs. This is why many business owners are starting to follow alternative routes regarding the purchase of new equipment, such as the choice of reconditioned or repaired machinery. According to this logic, what are the benefits of reconditioning?

Today in our blog, we will discuss this matter, giving you valuable tips to understand whether it's useful to recondition your telehandlers.

1. Not all reconditioning methods are the same

Always remember that the reconditioning process doesn't return a machine "like new" in every case. This is because the scope of work can greatly change from machine to machine: it goes from simple operations like applying a coat of paint or changing tires, to very complex interventions, up to rebuilding the machine completely.

In the latter case, it is always good to consult the specifications of an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and, prior to purchasing a machine on which several operations are to be carried out, ask preventive questions.

What is the percentage of components to be replaced inside the machine? What is the life expectancy of reconditioned equipment? What warranty do you get from the supplier - 90 days, 6 months, or 1 year?

Answering these questions will give you an indicative framework whether reconditioning may be convenient in this specific case.

2. What are my needs?

If you are thinking about addressing to a specialized supplier, you should well consider the latter’s qualifications. Is it a certified reconditioning center? Is the staff adequately trained, is the supplier's experience reliable, are there any references attesting the quality of interventions? Does he offer after-sales service?

Clearly express all of your goals. This is a good way to be sure to receive a service in line with your expectations.

3. Reconditioning isn't always an option

Is every piece of machinery a good candidate for reconditioning? The answer is no. If the equipment is still in production, it will be easier to find spare parts at an affordable price; otherwise costs could rise significantly, especially in view of future service and repairs. That is why a good reconditioning program provides for two levels of inspection: the first begins with a thorough control of the frame and all easily visible components; the second completes the overview of all necessary repairs, including those beyond routine operations. With this information at hand you can make a careful and safe choice.

4. Less costs, longer life

For many, the idea of reconditioning equipment stems from a purely economic factor. In fact, this process can prolong the life cycle of machinery up to 80%, guaranteeing excellent performance and reducing maintenance costs.

BKT recommends… Multimax MP 527

Assessing the state of the tires and carefully considering which one to adopt, is definitely one of the main points of the reconditioning process. For telehandlers, BKT suggests Multimax MP 527, the agro-industrial tires with excellent traction and stability properties. It’s the right answer to the requirements for this type of machinery, i.e. maximum reliability during the lifting phase. Furthermore, the extremely robust casing along with the high-performance compound, contributes to significantly increase the tire's resistance to cuts and lacerations. A winning combination of versatility, high durability and a long operating life.
